The Original Kingdom Hall sign
Our Kingdom Hall, was originally constructed in August of 1992. This was a "quick build" that even made the newspaper.
Before there was a Kingdom Hall, the Strathmore Congregation would meet at the Legion Hall in the kitchen and then the Seniors Drop-in Center soon after. At the Center, the door was required to be left open. This led to a turning point during a C.O. visit late one December. During the meeting, a man in a big red suit yelled "ho ho ho" down the hallway. Plans for a Kingdom Hall were quickly put in place soon after.
Efforts to raise funds included bottle pick up drives and garage sales. This money was used to buy the first property intended to build the Hall on. Neighbours in the area were not in agreement with this plan and started to make their feelings known, which later led to selling the original property and buying the property the Hall sits on today.
The Kingdom Hall was expanded in September of 2005, expanding the south side of the main hall to allow for the stage portion to be added, including a literature desk on each side. Also, the entry way and washrooms were adjusted and relocated, opening up the lobby and more room for those entering.
With the growing town population, the congregation grew as well, some joining from the territory and many families leaving the big city for the quieter town life.
The Congregation's territory includes vast country territory, some taking over 1 hour on the Highway to reach. This offers an opportunity to enjoy a long day in the countryside, sometimes with picnics at a nearby town.
The ministry contains a mix of opportunities ranging from Urban, Rural, Business, Karts, and the Siksika Nation (a First Nation to the east of Strathmore).
Recent Changes
In 2024, the Hall recently underwent a renovation organized by the LDC teams, that lasted for roughly 3 months (May-June). Some of the major improvements were to the HVAC system, AV equipment, carpet and chair replacements and a much needed lighting system for the parking lot.
Our congregation of 170 publishers responded to the call and zealously assisted in whatever they could. Many helped with the renovation, helped in the temporary kitchen set up in the shed, or provided food and accommodations for those who came from as far as the neighbouring provinces to help.
Even with recent boundary changes, the congregation works hard with its massive territory and continues endeavoring to bring a shout of praise to our God Jehovah.
